This fully supported, E-bike friendly Montana cycling adventure handles every logistical detail from kid-friendly gourmet meals to camp setup, allowing your family to focus on true backcountry immersion through a diverse array of activities.

Packing for your trip

Day 1: Gateway to the Gravelly's

  • Your adventure begins in Bozeman, MT, where we'll shuttle to the charming town of Ennis, the starting point for our ride into the stunning Gravelly Range.
  • We’ll hit the gravel roads for our first family ride amidst Montana's mountain backdrops before reaching a camp set up with prime sunset views and a delicious dinner.
  • Milage: 10-15 miles riding

Day 2: High Alpine & Wildlife Wonders

  • Today we head deeper into the wilderness along a scenic ridge with rewarding climbs and descents, reaching our trip's high point at Monument Ridge for breathtaking views of the Madison Range.
  • Wildlife is abundant here—keep your eyes peeled for moose, elk, and antelope—and enjoy the chance to spot lingering snowfields or take an optional afternoon hike before returning to camp.
  • Milage: 12 miles riding, optional hike

Day 3: Scenic Descent to the Madison River

  • Today you’ll be rewarded for yesterday's climbing with a long, exhilarating downhill ride from the high ridgeline all the way down to the scenic Madison River.
  • We'll cycle through beautiful forests and meadows filled with wildflowers, ending at our riverside family camp where you can relax or try some fly fishing in these legendary waters.
  • Milage: 20 miles riding

Day 4: Into Yellowstone National Park & Old Faithful

  • We make our way into the iconic Yellowstone National Park to begin cycling unique gravel paths that lead us toward the world-famous Old Faithful geyser to witness its magnificent eruption up close.
  • After experiencing the geothermal wonders of the geyser basin, we'll shuttle to our comfortable camp located near the expansive and beautiful Yellowstone Lake.
  • Milage: 15 miles riding

Day 5: Yellowstone Highlights & Farewell

  • Our final day is a non-riding exploration of Yellowstone's famous natural wonders, featuring a guided van tour through Hayden Valley for incredible wildlife viewing and the fascinating Mud Volcano area.
  • We’ll visit Artist Point for views of the mighty Yellowstone Falls and exit via Mammoth Hot Springs before returning to Bozeman, concluding your unforgettable Montana family adventure.
  • Total: (AM van/walking tour, multiple short hikes)

We will return to the Hampton Inn Bozeman between 3:00 - 4:00 PM on the last day.

Be sure to bring everything on this list. We have carefully developed this list to ensure your comfort on the tour regardless of the weather. If you are prepared for extreme weather, it is an adventure. If you are not prepared it can be a serious problem.We recommend the layering system, including a wicking or long underwear layer, an insulating layer and a weather barrier for wind and rain. This list reflects that philosophy. Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable so be sure to bring all the warm clothing and rain gear listed!

HOW TO PACK: The bulk of your gear and clothing will ride in the Western Spirit support vehicle (preferably in a large duffle bag) and will not be accessible during the day.

For this trip, you will need a riding pack and optional day bag:

  •  Your riding pack may be a hydration pack, but needs to carry 2-3 liters of water, rain gear, other warm clothing, and food for the day. You may be away from camp and the support vehicle all day and need to be self-sufficient.
  • A small day bag is optional and may be used to store things you’d rather not ride with, but would like to have access to during the day. This day-pack will remain with the support vehicle and may not be accessible, depending on the day.

o cash for tipping guides: your guides work as a team and share all of their gratuities. A tip of 10-20% of the price of your trip given to either one of your guides when you return to civilization is a great way to say thanks for a job well done.

o we encourage you to turn your devices off, but if you cannot, please bring a way to charge them. We recommend a portable USB charger with 1-2 charges. Also, putting your phone on airplane mode to save power is recommended.
o If you plan to fish on the trip, you must obtain a Montana fishing license. They are available at Powderhorn Sporting Goods right across the street from the bike shop.
