Experience the ultimate Fruita mountain bike tour, where you’ll navigate legendary singletrack loops like 18 Road, Rabbit Valley, and the technical Zion Curtain. This fully supported Colorado cycling adventure handles every detail from gear transport to gourmet backcountry meals, allowing you to focus entirely on conquering the world-class desert trails of the Grand Valley.

This Fruita singletrack tour contains some difficult riding on technical singletrack trails and some jeep roads. You will encounter challenging sections. We will be without vehicle support during many sections of the ride. Itineraries are subject to change due to weather, road conditions, rider safety, and other logistical factors.

Trip Overview: What to Expect from This Advanced Tour

Road Surface: Mostly singletrack, including packed sediment, some rocky and sandy sections, smooth dirt sections, and some asphalt sections.
Overall Rating: Advanced
Technical Difficulty: Advanced — Expect rocky, loose, ledgy, and sometimes steep singletrack.
Physical Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced — Expect short but steep climbs, longer days, and technical sections, making this a challenging and rewarding ride.
Altitude Range: 4,000 - 5,600 feet.
Support: Full support at camps; riders need to be self-sufficient with their riding pack on trail sections.
Total Mileage: 18-35 miles per day (optional extensions can bring the longest day’s riding up to 35 miles)
Packing for your trip

Day 1: Rabbit Valley & Zion Curtain's Epic Views

  • Your Colorado mountain biking adventure begins after meeting in Grand Junction.
  • After packing a tasty lunch, we shuttle to Rabbit Valley, the start of our ride and home to an extensive dinosaur dig.
  • A short climb brings us to the famous Zion Curtain Trail. We'll climb steadily on singletrack to a scenic lunch spot offering spectacular views of the Colorado River Valley.
  • After lunch, we'll continue on Zion Curtain, skirting the border between Colorado and Utah. Prepare for a big, sinewy, and steep descent that connects us to the legendary Kokopelli Trail.
  • A final short, punchy climb delivers us directly to our camp for the night.
  • Total Mileage: 18 miles

Day 2: Overlook Trail & Western Rim's Flow 

  • A big breakfast fuels today's adventure! We ride directly from camp on the Overlook Trail, part of the 1999 IMBA Epic Ride.
  • This trail runs the ridge in a roller coaster of fun, all the while offering panoramic views of the valley, stretching all the way to the majestic La Sal Mountains near Moab, Utah.
  • After a great lunch near Arches Junction, we descend a steep jeep road to the short “sawblade” Connector Trail.
  • This links us to the highly admired Western Rim Trail, a flowing ribbon of smooth twisty sections, slickrock, and sandstone ledges.
  • We'll finish the day on the Kokopelli Trail, leading us to another lovely camp in Rabbit Valley.
  • Total Mileage: 19 large miles

Day 3: Kokopelli Trail Challenge & Fruita Classics 

  • Today offers a perfect change of pace, balancing fast flow with technical challenge. We start the morning on the famous Kokopelli Trail, spinning our legs on rolling jeep road through Rabbit Valley.
  • After lunch, prepare for a gnarly, technical descent down to Salt Wash Bridge, crossing Salt Creek. "What goes down, must go up!" starts our rewarding climb to meet Troy Built Trail, a true Fruita classic!
  • This section features swooping singletrack, stout climbing, and some mandatory hike-a-bike sections, connecting us to the renowned Lion's Loop and Mary's Loop.
  • We'll finish at Loma Trailhead and shuttle through Fruita to our camp out on 18 Road, located at the base of the Bookcliffs.
  • Total Mileage: 21 miles

Day 4 & 5: Bookcliffs' Legendary Trails & Grand Finale 

  • Welcome to the Bookcliffs Trail System. These trails are what transformed Fruita from a local secret to a national destination.
  • Built entirely by and for mountain bikers, these special trails deliver a fast, twisting experience full of surprises.
  • We will be spending two full days riding in Fruita’s favorite mountain bike playground, hitting Joe’s Ridge, Kessel, Prime Cut, Zippity, and Chutes.
  • The riding here is zippy, smooth, and significantly less technical than the previous days, making for a truly epic finale to your Fruita singletrack tour.
  • Total Mileage: 20 – 35 miles/day

ENDING TIME

We will return to Grand Junction between 2:00-3:00 PM on the last day.

Be sure to bring everything on this list. We have carefully developed this list to ensure your comfort on the tour regardless of the weather. If you are prepared for extreme weather, it is an adventure. If you are not prepared it can be a serious problem. We recommend the layering system, including a wicking or long underwear layer, an insulating layer and a weather barrier for wind and rain. This list reflects that philosophy. Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable so be sure to bring all the warm clothing and rain gear listed!

HOW TO PACK: The bulk of your gear and clothing will ride in the Western Spirit support vehicle (preferably in a large duffle bag) and will not be accessible during the day.

For this trip, you will need a riding pack and optional day bag:

  • Your riding pack may be a hydration pack, but
    needs to carry 2-3 liters of water, rain gear, other
    warm clothing, and food for the day. You may be
    away from camp and the support vehicle all day
    and need to be self-sufficient.
  • A small day bag is optional and may be used to store things you’d rather not ride with, but would like to have access to during the day. This daypack will remain with the support vehicle and may not be accessible, depending on the day.

o cash for tipping guides: your guides work as a team and share all of their gratuities. A tip of 10-20% of the price of your trip given to either one of your guides when you return to civilization is a great way to say thanks for a job well done.
