Experience the ultimate Sun Valley teen mountain bike tour, where young riders build confidence and skill while navigating the spectacular high-alpine singletrack of the Idaho Rockies. This fully supported youth cycling adventure handles every detail from backcountry logistics to dutch-oven meals, allowing teens to focus on the thrill of epic trails and the lasting camaraderie of the great outdoors.

This tour contains some very difficult riding on narrow, steep mountain trails. A high level of skill and fitness is required to enjoyably navigate much of
the route. There will be riding along steep mountain ridges with exposure to falls on the downhill side. We will be without vehicle support during all of the
singletrack sections of the ride and medical help is far away. If you do not consider yourself to be an expert rider and doubt your ability to complete this
tour, please call us and we can help you determine whether this trip is appropriate for you.

Itineraries are subject to change due to weather, road conditions, rider safety and other factors which may affect the logistics of the adventure.

Packing for your trip

Day 1: Warm Springs Singletrack & A Relaxing Soak

  • The adventure begins with a ride out along Warm Springs Road to our camp.
  • The group will explore the singletrack of the Castle Creek drainage, a ride designed to ready them for the week ahead.
  • The area, revitalized by a past fire, offers an incredible window into the Smoky Mountains.
  • To top it off, our camp's proximity to Frenchman’s Hot Springs provides a relaxing soak and the perfect way to unwind.
  • Total Mileage: 27 miles

Day 2: Red Warrior Trail Loop & Mountain Vistas

  • Today, the group takes on the Red Warrior Trail, a spectacular lollipop loop from camp.
  • The ride features a rewarding climb up the drainage, with multiple creek crossings before reaching a scenic saddle.
  • Your teen will enjoy a trailside lunch with incredible views of the Pioneer, Smoky, and Boulder mountains.
  • The descent back down Red Warrior is a blast, with fun switchbacks and rollers that help build confidence and skills.
  • Total Mileage: 18 miles

Day 3: Poison Flats & The Long Descent to Deer Creek

  • This day is a testament to perseverance, featuring a beautiful climb through the forest to Poison Flats, a challenging but rewarding effort.
  • From this scenic meadow, the journey becomes a fun, technical descent to our secluded creekside camp at Deer Creek.
  • The trail becomes more engaging as it follows the creek banks, with several rocky sections that give way to a smooth, flowing ride.
  • Total Mileage: 17 miles

Day 4: Wolftone Creek & A World-Class Descent

  • Today’s loop from camp takes the group up Wolftone Creek to a ridge with awesome panoramic views.
  • The journey to the top provides a glimpse of Idaho’s diverse landscape, from the prairie to the south to the rugged Sawtooth and Boulder Mountains to the north.
  • The highlight is a world-class descent along Curran Creek, a winding trail that plunges into the forest and rewards riders with a fun, fast finish.
  • Total Mileage: 18 miles

Day 5: Howard’s Trail & A Final Ride to Ketchum

  • The final day starts with a rewarding climb up Howard’s Trail to a ridge overlooking Greenhorn Gulch.
  • The descent from the top is arguably the finest yet, with smooth and flowy singletrack and perfectly banked turns.
  • A final ride back along a paved bike path to Ketchum concludes this memorable Sun Valley bike trip for teens, leaving them with a sense of accomplishment and a lifetime of memories.

This trip will meet at 8:30 AM MST. The address will be provided in the Confirmation Email, call the office to confirm. You will need to spend the night before in Ketchum. Make sure you eat a big power breakfast to get you ready for your morning climb.

ENDING TIME

We will return to Ketchum between 3:00-4:00 PM on the last day.

Ketchum is located 77 miles north of Interstate 84 on Highway 75. We have a place to park all the vehicles while on the tour.

Be sure to bring everything on this list. We have carefully developed this list to ensure your comfort on the tour regardless of the weather. If you are prepared for extreme weather, it is an adventure. If you are not prepared it can be a serious problem.We recommend the layering system, including a wicking or long underwear layer, an insulating layer and a weather barrier for wind and rain. This list reflects that philosophy. Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable so be sure to bring all the warm clothing and rain gear listed!

HOW TO PACK: The bulk of your gear and clothing will ride in the Western Spirit support vehicle (preferably in a large duffle bag) and will not be accessible during the day.

For this trip, you will need a riding pack and optional day bag:

  •  Your riding pack may be a hydration pack, but needs to carry 2-3 liters of water, rain gear, other warm clothing, and food for the day. You may be away from camp and the support vehicle all day and need to be self-sufficient.
  • A small day bag is optional and may be used to store things you’d rather not ride with, but would like to have access to during the day. This day-pack will remain with the support vehicle and may not be accessible, depending on the day.

o cash for tipping guides: your guides work as a team and share all of their gratuities. A tip of 10-20% of the price of your trip given to either one of your guides when you return to civilization is a great way to say thanks for a job well done.
