Experience the ultimate Grand Canyon North Rim teenager bike tour, where active families navigate the flowing singletrack of the Rainbow Rim Trail and the legendary Arizona Trail. This fully supported Arizona mountain bike adventure handles every logistical detail from the North Kaibab National Forest to the canyon’s edge, allowing your teens to focus on true backcountry immersion and building skills on world-class high-elevation terrain.

Packing for your trip

DAY 1: St. George to the East Rim Viewpoint

  • After meeting in St. George and shuttling to the Kaibab National Forest, we’ll warm up on forest service roads before hitting the Arizona Trail for an afternoon of fine singletrack through Ponderosa pines.
  • The trail pops out at the East Rim Viewpoint for dramatic views of sedimentary rock layers like the Coconino Sandstone and Redwall Limestone, ending at a camp with a natural terrace perfect for watching the sunset.
  • TOTAL MILEAGE: 16 miles

DAY 2: Ponderosas, Aspens, and Marble Canyon

  • Today we’ll ride an out-and-back on the Arizona Trail, pedaling through beautiful meadows, aspens, and ponderosas with flexible mileage options that allow you to ride all the way to the corral.
  • Back at camp, we’ll relax with views of Marble Canyon far below while learning about the 360-million-year-old Redwall Limestone that John Wesley Powell famously named for its polished, marble-like appearance.
  • TOTAL MILEAGE: 21-28 miles

DAY 3: Grand Canyon National Park & The Historic Lodge

  • We’ll shuttle into the National Park for a morning hike along the rim to discover fossils from a 250-million-year-old seabed before visiting the historic Grand Canyon Lodge, a 1930s masterpiece built from giant timbers.
  • After a shuttle back to the forest, we’ll ride aspen-lined dirt roads to our camp at Locust or Fence Point, where the views reveal nearly two billion years of geology, including the oldest metamorphic rocks in the Inner Gorge.
  • TOTAL MILEAGE: 8 miles riding, 1.5 miles hiking

DAY 4: The Legendary Rainbow Rim Trail

  • Today is dedicated to the Rainbow Rim Trail, a highlight designed by Ranger John Kneeling with a consistent 9-degree grade that makes the climbs manageable and the descents incredibly fun.
  • We’ll ride north to Parissawampitts for a trailside lunch while studying the canyon strata, with the flexibility to turn around at any time or push for the full out-and-back experience.
  • TOTAL MILEAGE: 23 miles, shorter or longer options available

DAY 5: Rainbow Rim South & Farewell

  • We’ll finish our adventure riding the southern section of the Rainbow Rim Trail through Ponderosa pines, a fast and smooth route with swooping downhills that are guaranteed to bring out huge smiles.
  • After a few final climbs to wear out your legs and a celebratory lunch near the rim, we’ll load up for the shuttle back to St. George to conclude our journey.
  • TOTAL MILEAGE: 9 miles

St. George, UT
This tour will begin at 7:30 AM MST at The Holiday Inn St. George Convention Center. 1808 Crosby way, St. George, Ut 84790. You will need to spend the night in St. George because none of the shuttle services from Las Vegas or Salt Lake run early enough. See more details below in “Lodging Before Your Trip”. ENDING TIME

We will return to St. George between 4:00-5:00 PM on the last day. You will have time to catch a shuttle back to Las Vegas, but not to Salt Lake.

St. George is located 120 miles north of Las Vegas on Interstate 15. If you need to leave a car behind while you are on your trip, there is parking available at the hotel where we will be meeting.

Flying into Las Vegas, NV

There are two options for getting from Las Vegas to St. George:

1) Take a shuttle with Salt Lake Express. When you reserve, it is very important that you tell them the following things:

2. If you are flying with your bike, you will need to reserve a spot on the shuttle for your bike, which will need to be boxed up. There is a surcharge each way.

Shuttles depart from the Las Vegas Airport and St. George eight times daily. Keep in mind that St. George is one hour ahead of Las Vegas. Call 208-656-8824 or visit http://www.saltlakeexpress.com for times and to make a reservation.

2) Rent a car in Las Vegas and park it at the hotel.

Grand Canyon, North Rim Teenager Trip

A Higher Perspective for Active Teens

This trip is designed especially for teenagers who already have experience with singletrack and are looking to step up their riding skills in a fun family setting! In addition to riding sections of the Arizona Trail, our mountain bike trip on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon includes a visit to Grand Canyon National Park and the highly acclaimed Rainbow Rim Trail. This mountain biking expedition in the North Kaibab National Forest is one of our all-time favorites.

The construction techniques the rangers used to build this trail are the best we have found in the West; because the grade rarely exceeds 9%, everybody feels like a hero. The climbs are gentle and consistent, the descents are smooth and flowing, and the North Rim offers some of the most jaw-dropping views of the Grand Canyon. At a higher elevation than the South Rim, this route is a bit more challenging and offers an approachable guided mountain biking trip for those looking to build skills with options for longer or shorter rides.

Be sure to bring everything on this list. We have carefully developed this list to ensure your comfort on the tour regardless of the weather. If you are prepared for extreme weather, it is an adventure. If you are not prepared it can be a serious problem. We recommend the layering system, including a wicking or long underwear layer, an insulating layer and a weather barrier for wind and rain. This list reflects that philosophy. Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable so be sure to bring all the warm clothing and rain gear listed!

HOW TO PACK: The bulk of your gear and clothing will ride in the Western Spirit support vehicle (preferably in a large duffel bag) and will not be accessible during the day

For this trip, you will need a riding pack and optional day bag:

  • Your riding pack may be a hydration pack, but needs to carry 2-3 liters of water, rain gear, other warm clothing, and food for the day. You may be away from camp and the support vehicle all day and need to be self-sufficient.
  • A small day bag is optional and may be used to store things you’d rather not ride with, but would like to have access to during the day. This daypack will remain with the support vehicle and may not be accessible, depending on the day.
