Packing for your trip

Your Fully Supported 5-Day Fruita E-Bike Itinerary

Our meticulously planned Fruita E-bike itinerary maximizes your time on these legendary trails, blending exhilarating rides with immersive experiences in Colorado's high desert.

Day 1: Rabbit Valley & Zion Curtain's Epic Views (Total Mileage: 18 miles)

Your Colorado E-bike trip begins after meeting in Grand Junction. We'll head to Fruita, stopping at the famous Over the Edge Sports bike shop to set the mood for world-class singletrack. After packing a tasty lunch, we shuttle to Rabbit Valley, the start of our ride and home to an extensive dinosaur dig. A short climb brings us to the Zion Curtain Trail, which we'll climb steadily to a lunch spot with spectacular views of the Colorado River Valley. We'll then skirt the border between Colorado and Utah on Zion Curtain, setting up for a big, sinewy descent to pick up the Kokopelli Trail and a short, steep climb to camp.

Day 2: Overlook Trail & Western Rim's Flow (Total Mileage: 19 large miles)

A big breakfast fuels today's adventure! We ride directly from camp on the Overlook Trail, part of the 1999 IMBA Epic Ride. This trail is a fun roller coaster along the ridge, offering panoramic views all the way to the La Sal Mountains near Moab, Utah. After a great lunch near Arches Junction, we descend a steep jeep road to the "sawblade" Connector Trail. This links us to the highly admired Western Rim Trail, a flowing ribbon of smooth twisty sections, slickrock, and sandstone ledges. We'll finish the day on the Kokopelli Trail, leading us to another lovely camp in Rabbit Valley. Yippee!

Day 3: Kokopelli Trail Challenge & Fruita Classics (Total Mileage: 21 miles)

Today offers a break from the technical side of the trip, as we ride the famous Kokopelli Trail this morning. Spin your legs out on rolling jeep road through Rabbit Valley to a scenic lunch location high above the Colorado River. After lunch, the break's over! Prepare for a gnarly, technical descent down to Salt Wash Bridge, crossing Salt Creek. "What goes down, must go up!" This starts our grind to meet Troy Built Trail, a true Fruita classic! Lots of swooping singletrack, stout climbing, and some hike-a-biking connect us to the Lion's and Mary's loops. The riding here is so good that locals from Moab travel to Grand Junction just to ride these very trails! We'll finish at Loma Trailhead and shuttle to our camp out on 18 Road, located at the base of the Bookcliffs.

Day 4: The 18 Road "Queen Stage": Skywalker & Sarlaac (Total Mileage: 30 miles)

Today's ride will be a real battery drainer as we conquer the entire Skywalker and Sarlaac trails, high above the Bookcliffs Trail System. The 18 Road trails truly transformed Fruita from a local secret to a national destination. These fast, twisting trails, full of surprises and built entirely by and for mountain bikers, are incredibly special. As a "Queen Stage," with nearly 30 miles and 5,000 feet of elevation gain, it will be a solid test of your ability to manage both your body and your E-bike's battery. We'll stay at the same camp tonight, resting easy knowing we've nearly made it through the week's biggest challenge.

Day 5: Bookcliffs' Zippy Descents & Grand Finale (Total Mileage: 20 - 35 miles)

Good morning—it's playtime! Welcome to the Bookcliffs Trail System, the true original creation of Fruita mountain bikers. These trails are what changed Fruita from a local secret to a national destination. Fast, twisting, and full of surprises, built entirely by and for mountain bikers, all of these trails are special! Zippy, smooth, and significantly less technical than previous days, it's too awesome to limit to just one day. We'll hit Joe's Ridge, Kessel, Prime Cut, Zippity, Chutes... and whatever else we can squeeze into our fun-filled day in Fruita’s favorite mountain bike playground.

Be sure to bring everything on this list. We have carefully developed this list to ensure your comfort on the tour regardless of the weather. If you are prepared for extreme weather, it is an adventure. If you are not prepared it can be a serious problem. We recommend the layering system, including a wicking or long underwear layer, an insulating layer and a weather barrier for wind and rain. This list reflects that philosophy. Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable so be sure to bring all the warm clothing and rain gear listed!

HOW TO PACK: The bulk of your gear and clothing will ride in the Western Spirit support vehicle (preferably in a large duffle bag) and will not be accessible during the day.

For this trip, you will need a riding pack and optional day bag:

  • Your riding pack may be a hydration pack, but
needs to carry 2-3 liters of water, rain gear, other
warm clothing, and food for the day. You may be
away from camp and the support vehicle all day
    and need to be self-sufficient.
  • A small day bag is optional and may be used to store things you’d rather not ride with, but would like to have access to during the day. This daypack will remain with the support vehicle and may not be accessible, depending on the day.
