Salt River Spring water

Posted by Sheri on Mar 31 2009 | Sheri

I don’t know if any of you have run the Salt River down by Tucson AZ, but if you ever get the chance then do not hesitate.  Such a beautiful canyon, such fun water.  After the first day you start to see the Sauguaro cactus and they don’t leave for the rest of the trip.  My passenger is from Tucson and she even said she had never seen so many in one place.  The water is pretty constant, rocks, moving, really fun rowing.  I used a 14′ and would have been even happier with a 12′ or smaller rig.  A bit tight in some places, it looked like we lost cfs, but it was still super fun.  Since I’ve been back I’ve heard of 2 friends who were suppose to come on that trip and bailed out and all I have to say about that is NEVER BAIL!!

Have fun out there- high water is coming.

Posted by biking on Mar 13 2009 | Meet other bikers, Road Riding, pictures

Road riding in Arches National ParkIt’s Friday the 13th and a great day to get out and experience some of the best road biking in the world.  Today marks the start of the three day Moab Skinny Tire Festival, an annual fundraiser to benefit cancer survivorship programs.  The Festival rides the best of the best.  There’s a ride in Arches National Park, a ride along the Colorado River corridor, and a ride to Dead Horse Point State Park.  The rides are fully supported with sag wagons, bicycle mechanics and aid stations along the way.  There’ll even be a super fantastic and truly delicious lunch for the top fundraisers catered by, yours truly, Western Spirit Cycling.  Didn’t make it this year?  Start training for next year!

Nike shoot

Posted by Sheri on Mar 05 2009 | Custom Trips, Mountain biking, Sheri, Trip Report

The Nike photographers and talent were hanging in Moab UT with Western Spirit Cycling these past 2 weeks shooting various athletes in various athletic Nike garb.  Really amazing athletes!  Not only were they European, which is always fun to listen to their funny voices- but the incredible feats these folks pulled off would make your chin drop to your chest.  Two of these guys are base jumpers, crazy I know, but the places they have been and the jumps they have done were amazing.  They have both used those bat suit wing suit suits which basically means they honestly fly thru the air.  A couple of climbers, a mountain biker and that pretty well rounded up the talent portion of their show.

They got the shots they wanted and you’ll probably start seeing them in magazines soon.  I just hope they come back and just chat me up a bit…..love the accents.

Yellowstone National Park Bicycle Tours

Posted by Mark on Feb 25 2009 | Mark, Road Riding

This trip has been a dream of ours for quite some time. Imagine having Yellowstone National Park virtually ALL to ourselves?! Well, OK - there will be a few other visitors, but nothing like high season. We’ll be road riding through the park in late May, or perhaps September when the snows are gone, but the temps nice and cool. Yeah you might need your arm warmers and booties, but the reward is very little traffic and incredible wildlife sightings.

We’ll be staying in the grand historic hotels of the park, so hot showers after the rides are definitely part of the program. Milages range from 30 to 50 miles each day and elevations are from 6,000 to 9,000 feet. Will this be the year you do a Yellowstone National Park Bike Tour? Lets hope so!

Moab Mountain Biking

Posted by biking on Feb 25 2009 | Mountain biking, pictures

Thinking of coming to Moab to do some mountain biking?  Think no more.  Just do it.  Spring is springing and it’s time to get on a bicycle and feel the air on your skin.  Carpe Diem!  Why leave till tomorrow what you can do today?  Being happy is a way to be wise.  If you only do what you know you can do - you never do much.  Laugh as much as you breath and love as long as you live.

Sonoran Singletrack

Posted by Melissa on Feb 24 2009 | Melissa, Mountain biking, singletrack

How bad can life be if you get paid to go ride some killer singletrack?  I ask myself that everyday.  I am actually pretty darn fortunate to work as a guide for Western Spirit Cycling Adventures — I go to spectacular riding venues and my guests are always happy to see me b/c they are on vacation, I cook for them and keep their beer cold!

My first trip of the season will be at the end of March in Tucson, AZ, on our Sonoran Desert Tour.  This will be my first time there, so I am learning the trip under the tutelage of veteran guides Scott and Rachel.  I’m told the riding will be super fun — a mix of loose, rocky terrain; a flume trail; some rolling climbs — just what the doctor ordered!  Hopefully there will also be some time to train for the Western Spirit Bikini Team.  However, great caution will be taken when riding between the saguaros and cholla.  Any loud exclamations of “ooopsie” will likely be coming from my mouth.

Highlighted on this tour are the AZ Trail, Fantasy Island, and the Link Trail.  These are some of the best trails in the region and will be sure to please all.  Nothing like swooping and zooming, rock hopping and kicking it.  So, if Clint Eastwood asked me do I feel lucky? my Magic 8 Ball and I would not hesitate to respond: without a doubt.

YouTube and Mountain Biking

Posted by Emily on Feb 19 2009 | Emily, Videos

There I was: in the office. I was supposed to be working on the budget the other day…sound familiar???…and I couldn’t keep my brain from daydreaming about going on a bike ride. So, what does any logical employee do?

I quietly closed the doors to the office, opened up my internet browser, and googled “Mountain Biking Video White Rim”.

To my surprise, the Western Spirit White Rim video was #3 in the google search! I went to our site and watched all five White Rim videos. It was awesome. I then proceeded to watch some other videos on our site. I got it out of my system and went straight back to work. I swear.
